Ivybridge Train Station is too short

“Our train station is too short,” commented our chair, John Pope.  Local MP, Rebecca Smith had written to train operator CrossCountry Trains to ask them why they don’t stop at Ivybridge.  “Unlike GWR, our trains do not have selective door openings allowing us to keep the front and rear doors shut, so it is too dangerous”, CrossCountry replied.

A little research revealed that the platforms need extending by only 16 metres, which can easily be achieved.

As a result of the perseverance of both Ivybridge Rail Users’ Group (IRUG) and PL:21, Network Rail has undertaken to carry out a preliminary design study, and SHDC have provided the required £20,000 funding. A contract for the work was signed in January, and we hope the study will be completed before the end of May 2026.

PL:21 is working with South Hams District Council, Ivybridge Rail Users’ Group, and Rebecca Smith, with a view to raising the funds.
